Day Conference 2018 Announced

The Society’s Day Conference for 2018 has been announced. It will take place at St Bride’s Foundation, Fleet Street, London on Saturday 17th March 2018.

The Bekynton Lecture in Law and Religion: Wells Cathedral

Professor Norman Doe, Director of the Centre for Law and Religion, Cardiff Law School, delivered the inaugural Bekynton Lecture, on the legal architecture of English cathedrals, on Sunday 1 October 2017 in the Education Room of Wells Cathedral. The lecture is a collaboration between Wells Cathedral, Harris and Harris Solicitors and the Cardiff Centre for Law and Religion at Cardiff University and commemorates Thomas Bekynton (1390-1465), Dean of the Court of Arches (1423) and Bishop of Bath and Wells (1443).

Independent Reviewer’s report on the See of Sheffield

On 15 September, Sir Philip Mawer, the Independent Reviewer, published his review of the nomination to the See of Sheffield. The review was requested by the Archbishops in March, following the announcement that the Bishop of Burnley, Philip North, was to withdraw from nomination to the Diocese of Sheffield. He makes four recommendations, principally to the House of Bishops, designed to enable the whole Church to address the issues raised.

The latest amendments to the Ecclesiastical Offices (Terms of Service) Regulations 2009 have changed certain aspects of the provisions governing how clergy over 70 hold office.
