Ecclesiastical Moot Competition 2023

March 31, 2023

For several years the Ecclesiastical Law Society has collaborated with the Inner Temple in an annual Ecclesiastical Moot Competition by providing a generous cash prize to the winner. This year’s competition is now well underway and has been opened up to student members of all the Inns of Court. A new moot problem has been drafted and there were expressions of interest from more than 30 students. Based upon the students’ skeleton arguments the Mooting Society at Inner Temple whittled this number down to sixteen entrants for the preliminary heats. The heats will be held online during the evening of 11 April 2023, in separate moots judged, respectively, by Chancellor Ruth Arlow and by Chancellor Mark Hill KC, who is Master of Mooting at Inner Temple. The four best advocates from the heats will be selected for the final to be held in person on Saturday 22 April 2023 at the Temple Church, by kind permission of the Reverend and Valiant Master. The final will be judged by a panel presided over by The Right Worshipful Morag Ellis KC, Dean of the Arches and Auditor, followed by refreshments.

Spectators are welcome to attend the final, which begins at 10am, Saturday 22 April 2023, at the Temple Church.
